MT5 Forex VPS Requirements: vCPU, RAM, Windows & Latency Guide
MT5 Forex VPS requirements guide covering terminal count, vCPU, RAM, Windows, RDP, broker-server latency, backups and India compliance considerations.
MT5 Forex VPS requirements depend mainly on the number of terminals, charts, Expert Advisors, history depth and supporting applications. VPSWala’s current Forex VPS guidance starts one or two MT4/MT5 terminals at a 2 vCPU / 4 GB RAM / 40 GB NVMe VPS and recommends moving up as terminal count and EA workload increase.
A Forex VPS keeps compatible trading software running independently of your home PC. It can improve operational continuity and may reduce network latency when the VPS has a better route to the broker’s trade server, but no VPS can guarantee trading outcomes, fills, slippage or profit.
MT5 VPS requirements at a glance
| Workload | Practical starting point |
|---|---|
| 1–2 MT4/MT5 terminals | 2 vCPU / 4 GB RAM class |
| 3–6 terminals or busier EAs | 4 vCPU / 8 GB class or higher |
| Many terminals / supporting tools | Measure CPU and RAM, then scale beyond 8 GB as needed |
| Very CPU-sensitive workflow | Benchmark high-frequency 9950X VPS against standard VPS |
These are hosting starting points, not requirements published by MetaQuotes for every EA. Real use varies significantly.
Why broker-server latency matters
MetaTrader 5’s own virtual-hosting documentation highlights network delay between the virtual server and the broker’s trade server. Lower network latency can improve the technical conditions for order transmission, but it does not guarantee price or execution quality.
For a full Windows VPS, identify the exact broker access point first. Then test candidate VPSWala nodes to that destination where possible. The server closest to you is not necessarily the server with the best route to the broker.
CPU requirements for MT5
Many EAs are not highly parallel. One busy terminal or strategy can load one core heavily while total CPU appears modest. If that happens, a high-frequency host can be more useful than simply adding many vCPU.
Measure:
- per-core CPU use;
- terminal responsiveness;
- EA execution time and logs;
- Windows background load;
- p95 resource peaks during busy sessions.
RAM requirements
Each terminal consumes memory for charts, history, indicators and EA state. VPSWala’s current guidance notes that additional terminals add memory usage, so the correct approach is to size by the real terminal count and configuration.
Leave memory for Windows itself, antivirus/security tooling, monitoring and any bridge or support software. Persistent paging is an upgrade signal.
Storage requirements
40 GB NVMe can be sufficient for a small trading environment, but history, logs, multiple terminal installations, Windows updates and backups grow over time. Monitor free disk space and keep configuration backups independently.
Windows and RDP
A full Forex VPS normally uses Windows Remote Desktop for administration. Harden RDP, keep Windows updated, use strong credentials and avoid exposing unnecessary services. Windows Server licensing is separately quoted on VPSWala’s catalogue.
MT5 integrated VPS vs full Windows VPS
| Feature | MetaTrader integrated virtual hosting | Full Windows VPS |
|---|---|---|
| Full desktop | No normal general-purpose Windows desktop | Yes, via RDP |
| Multiple unrelated desktop tools | Limited to supported migrated environment | Flexible |
| Server administration | Minimal | You/provider manage Windows |
| Location selection | MetaTrader service selection model | Choose/test provider node |
India compliance note
This article is infrastructure guidance, not investment or legal advice. The Reserve Bank of India states that resident persons may undertake permitted forex transactions only with authorised persons and, when executed electronically, through RBI-authorised electronic trading platforms or recognised stock exchanges as applicable. Confirm the broker, venue, instruments and funding method before deploying automation.
Backups for MT5
Back up EA files, indicators, templates, terminal configuration and any business-critical scripts. A snapshot can help with rollback, but keep an independent copy outside the live VPS.
MT5 VPS checklist
- Identify broker/trade-server region.
- Choose and test Mumbai, Noida or Jaipur based on that route.
- Count terminals, charts and EAs.
- Start with enough RAM for Windows plus workload.
- Monitor per-core CPU, memory and disk.
- Harden RDP and keep Windows patched.
- Back up configuration independently.
- Confirm legal/broker requirements for your residency.
Bottom line
For one or two MT5 terminals, 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM is a sensible VPSWala starting point. Scale to 4 vCPU / 8 GB or higher when terminal count, EA load or supporting software proves the need. Choose location by broker-route testing rather than by your own physical location.
Next step: review VPSWala Forex VPS and compare the standard VPS catalogue with the 9950X range.
